In an orkut community, i had posted the following comment in response to a post that eulogised Ms Rand .Here the big comment goes! Why don't ou have your say after reading my point? That might be great!
The Fountainhead is one of the best books i have ever read, no doubt. Miss Rand is a gifted story teller.Well, when i read the book few months back, even i was intrigued. Intrigued is too small a word. Disturbed is the word. Like, i got perturbed by the philosophy and felt restless. I began positioning myself as Howard and thought i were him. This continued for about a month or so. Now i have completely recuperated. Now, you may wonder why i have used the word "recuperated". If you are really a shrewd, wise person, you'll notice that her philosophy is sheer brainwashing. Don't be offended, people but this is the truth. One can't blame her for her exemplary writing skills, though.Sadly, India is the second largest country to follow "yet another philosophy"-Objectivism.One thing's for sure. You can't follow all the philosophies if you were to read books of the same genre. I read Dostoyevsky's "Crime and punishment" and yes, it affected me real bad. The philosophy it portrays is "existentialism". When you read another books that speaks at length about "communism" no wonder you might get addicted to it. This philosophy thingy reminds me of the various crushes we have in different stages of our lives. In my humble opinion, Objectivism is yet another philosophy. And yep, i hate Ayn Rand. But i love Howard Roark.
Objectivism might work real well with the Americans, but not here. We people are still dependant on a larger society and we were brought up the way foreigners were not. ANd if you notice something , Howard Roark is introduced as an orphan and he has nobody to care for him. That's the reason why his character remains cold and rude beyond words. When you have no friends , one day you might have this care a damn attitude(as in my case). Happens with evreybody. Yes, if a person is not loved, his thought process differs to quite a great extent. The anger turns to frustration and at one point, it becomes indifference and coldness. But here, in India, we people adore our families and they take care of us real well. What is the need to go for the inane philosophy then? The kinda philosophy that makes look at life as a delusion?the kinda philosophy that is in no way related to the way we live?the kinda philosophy that says "be selfish" and preaches people to think of themselves as the most important?the kinda philosophy that teaches people to detach themselves from a loving world(as in India's case)?the kinda philosophy that is far from reality?
And why do people think it's always great to act perverse?Does acting perverse get you the attention you badly want?Guess Rand did the same to get publicity. But, hey, is she an objectivist?;)Only second handers go for power and publicity, not Rand. certainly not Rand. Or did she just want to try it once just for the fun of it?hmmm..
Why do people get provoked when Ayn Rand's being hated?uh, huh! When i stop by forums that actually discuss objectivism, i am indeed surprised to find many sane educated people going absolutely insane.According to the same philosophy, is it not so that people have to mind their own business?and stay calm and imperturbable like Mr Roark?People, IMAO, Ayn Rand is a second hander. She needed power and she did the right thing to gain it. her writing skills glorified her.::Period::
